Photographer Sara Espinoza writes in:
On November 12th I had the opportunity to be part of the LS1426 Fashion Week (Fashion and Beauty Consulting Company).
This year the show was hosted by Whitney Thompson, first plus model to win in 2008 the well-known show America’s Next Top Model.
Some of the designers that were part of the event were Franovik Designs, Big Girlz, Inc., Sarahi House of Fashion, Edward Dillard Evening Wear, Bien Roule Full Figured Curvy, Alton King, and more.
The lovely evening took place at the Marriot Miami Biscayne Bay in Miami Florida. Part of the proceeds from this year’s event was destined to charity organizations.
I’m so proud of all the models that participated in the show. They worked their curvy figures in the runway. They represented gracefully the designers and their work.
Here are some photographs that I took from that night. Enjoy! MORE IMAGES →
Whether faux or real, fur is made for the cool days of fall. It’s a versatile fabric and well, it makes us feel like royalty. There are vests for the cool days, coats for the even colder ones, and scarves for any day. Most of the things in Bloomingdale’s fur collection are made from faux fur, for those of us who’d rather go that route, but there are also a couple of pieces made from animal skins, namely rabbit and raccoon. It’s up to you to choose. Should your personal convictions lead you away from real fur, most of their coats and vests are made from the faux material. In any case, you will feel like a lady of Winterfell no matter what it is you wear. Winter is coming girls, and we better be ready! MORE IMAGES →
Despite the fact that come fall, we can no longer catch a tan, we can still catch the sun’s rays…no matter how elusive they become. How? Sequins and shine, of course! Once a staple of nightlife, sequins are strolling into day time, and for good reason too. This fun Fall 2012 trend is here to bring a little light into the gray of autumn. Bloomingdale’s has cashed in on this with a large collection of dresses. They’re the perfect vehicle for this trend as the two are made for one another. No party is complete with at least one shiny dress. However, there are a few other pieces which, when paired with neutral colors and fabrics, can spice up your day-to-day outfits. Sequined skirt? Check! Fun light reflecting shirts? Check! Work or play, this plus size fashion trend is here to help you celebrate and not hide your curves. MORE IMAGES →

Why is it so hard for women to find what they want to wear? Because there are so many choices! And with the boom in the plus size fashion industry, plus size girls don’t need to worry about not having enough choice. In fact, there’s almost too much of it. (We kid, of course. There could never be too much choice!) Since fall has already walked through the door, a lot of companies are bringing out their fall lines. This is no less true for Nordstrom. Their Fall 2012 collection is focusing on blouses; and a girl can never have enough of those. StylishDressing has noticed a fashion trend in this collection: feminine blouses. It’s very heavy with sheer fabrics, prints, and patterns – as well as oversize shirts. Perfect for the rapidly cooling weather, these pieces will also work once it warms up again. We’ve chosen a few of our favourite pieces from each category. Enjoy!

Another one of Bloomingdale’s designated Fall 2012 trends is leather. A material as controversial as fur, it nonetheless is a big part of fashion. Whereas fur denotes glamour and luxury, leather is reminiscent of a laidback attitude. Once again, there is a split between real and fake leather here, but for the most part the pieces here are made from real leather. This may be due to the fact that pleather is not a very breathable fabric, particularly when it comes to pants and leggings. Thankfully, there are a lot of choices as to how to wear your leather. Go for a fitted jacket to shape your curves, or try a pair of leather pants to bring out your punk side. MORE IMAGES →
If you have never been on Etsy, then you are missing out greatly. Search for plus size fashion and you will be pleasantly surprised by the choices offered. A lot of it is vintage inspired, meaning that it’s flattering to full figured women. They knew how to pick them back then, didn’t they? One of our favorite plus size sellers on Etsy is Jibri. They combine vintage and punk with classic lines to create stunning pieces. We wouldn’t mind wearing Jibri all day every day! MORE IMAGES →
This Winter 2012, the plus size fashion line, ‘Elegance’ (a fashion line that started in October 1999 in Portugal), created a more provincial look. Don’t let it fool you though. This type of plus size fashion is sure to stir a little bit of your curiosity! Elegance described their Winter 2012 plus size fashion collection as more of a ‘folk proposal, without sacrificing the elegance’. Over all the plus size fashion collection revolves around ‘fringe, embroidery, lace and leather’ creating a sophisticated look that is current yet down to earth! Here is a review of the Elegance’s plus size fashion collection for Winter 2012.
Elegance showed some fabulous plus size fashion jeans for their Winter 2012 collection. In the image below, the plus size jeans were paired with old-country inspired, button down tops, complete with lace layers and knitted over top. Among all of these looks though, the farthest one to the right is the most ‘folk’ like of them all, channeling some old ‘deputy Jane’ with the denim on denim plus size ensemble! MORE IMAGES →

Plus size fashion has come a long way through the years. Where once plus size women were relegated to wearing unflattering baggy clothes, now they have a myriad of choices, most of which work with their curves—not against them. There’s no greater testament to this than Monif C’s plus size fall 2012 collection. The dresses in this series are absolutely stunning. What’s more, there is versatility to them—work or play, these dresses will make you into a plus size diva!
Stylish Dressing has lately become a big fan of ruching. The optical illusion it creates helps to hide any of those bothersome bumps and creases underneath. Monif C has also seen the benefit of this kind of fabric design and what’s more, they’ve created a convertible dress which according to them can tie in 22 different ways (so far). That is essentially 22 different dresses in one! And they come in various colors, too: MORE IMAGES →

It’s easy for a plus size girl to dread summer. The heat drives everyone to the nearest pools or beaches in their best swimwear, and we’re no exception. The problem is, however, that such an emphasis is put on people, especially plus size women, to have the “perfect” beach body. But that isn’t attainable for everyone. After all, people are made to be in different shapes and sizes, otherwise, where’s the fun?!
What’s more, swimsuits tend to come as either bikini, or Olympic swimmer one piece and it’s very hard to find one fit for a full figure woman. Thankfully, that’s where Kiyonna comes in. Their Summer 2012 collection harkens back to the Golden Age in America’s history where curves were appreciated. MORE IMAGES →

Boudoir photography can be dated as far back as, well if one might say, photography itself. As you look back, sensual, if not erotic, paintings depicting women in their boudoirs with nothing but their chemise on can be attributed to the baroque and rococo eras of art. One such artist is François Boucher. Far from pornography on canvass, these paintings are tastefully done and a spectator can only marvel to appreciate the art, the beauty, and the effort to achieve such a masterpiece. MORE IMAGES →

From the luscious greens of the rainforest to the striking beauty of the earth’s deserts, and to the elegant orient seas, it seems as though IGIGI’s vogue team explored the ends of the earth just to give us their latest and appropriately named collection: Voyage Exotique.

StylishDressing has, of late, become a fan of Indian Beauty and Former Miss World Aishwarya Rai. According to thousands of websites, internet polls and even Julia Roberts, she is the most beautiful woman in the world. Ash, who has always had a healthy figure, never taking the anorexically thin bandwagon, has put on some weight post -pregnancy. The mainstream media, as usual, has been bickering about the weight gain and how she has been irresponsible by not going the Victoria Beckham way, going back to size zero in two weeks. We think she looks gorgeous in plus size, and these pictures of her at the Cannes Film Festival 2012 will prove that!
For the AmfAR Cinema Against Aids gala, Ash wore an Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla designed saree. This was a love it or hate it attire. We loved it, because althoughit did make her look a tad matronly, it had all the elegance of traditional Indian attire. The minimal makeup looked great, but the gold streak in the hair, was a wee bit tacky for us. MORE IMAGES →
For the past months, African-inspired garments and accessories have been raising their fashion status all over the world. Lingerie is a girl’s best friend. It empowers you, boosts your self-confidence, and at the same time, tempts the special one who gets to see it! Another great thing about lingerie of the plus size genre is that it is now made to also create a fantastic foundation for your clothes to fall on. It shapes and supports the busts, tames the hips and curves the thighs.
Although at times it can be confusing as the choices have now become endless, here are the latest trends that you may want to buy for your own wardrobe collection.
THE PLUS SIZE BABYDOLL
This is definitely a staple for any plus size woman (or even regular size at that!). Baby doll lingerie invokes innocence and mystery. It also flatters most body types. For a more seductive look, you may want to buy the red deep v neck lace see through lingerie. MORE IMAGES →
Addition Elle’s Summer 2012 Lookbook is an absolute treat! The combination of colors, the lively patterns and the neutral animal prints are to live for. Although the trends and styles can be assimilated with what’s in last spring, Addition Elle’s team was able to revamp the already hot trends for this already warm season. Who says you can’t wear recurring trends, anyway? Join us for a trip to Addition Elle’s Lookbook where their latest collection has something for all our readers -from office chic to an after party soiree down to oh là là lingerie.
Naturally, Addition Elle was able to pull off the most outrageously attractive color blocking for summer. The bright oranges, pinks, and blues remind us of the electrifying colors of the 80’s. The cropped jeans that show off our personalities are forecasted to be everyone’s staple this summer and there is absolutely no reason for us not to believe it. MORE IMAGES →
Fashion blogger Nita brings out our love for pleats in this three-part “pleat affair”. There’s just something about pleats that make you want to fall in love with them. It could be the straight lines, the dainty folds, the way it flows in the wind, or maybe how it just gives us that romantic feel.
As seen here, Nita wore this dark green pleated midi skirt with a pink top from Next, shoes from L’Autre Chose, and a cocktail ring from Disney Couture. The pairing of colors she chose is not entirely color blocking, for those of you wondering, but it works in many ways nonetheless. MORE IMAGES →

Skorch Magazine’s Executive Fashion Editor, Bella Styles stepped out on a recent shoot in a Mama Caftan Dress by Anthony Bling Bling for HSN. Although she wore the dress last year for RVA Fashion Week, she revamped the whole look with Turquoise accessories, a pink belt, and ‘Munroe’ pumps from last year’s Jeffrey Campbell Collection for Nordstrom.
We are reminded of the Versace Atelier Color Palette for the 2012 Fall/ Winter Collection where purple and turquoise were widely used. This pair is a very achievable, very easy example of color blocking. So if you happen to have a difficulty in doing so, you can just throw on a pair of purple jeans and a turquoise, or if you don’t have one – a teal top, and you are ready to go.
The pumps from the Jeffrey Campbell collection for Nordstrom are gorgeous. The pink and orange accents go well with the accessories. MORE IMAGES →
Ruched clothing has been around for a long time. The techniques of ruching have been said to have started since the middle Ages. We take a look at some inspirational pieces of the latest ruched clothing while delving deeper into the things to keep in mind when choosing one for yourself.
So, why ruching is still here? Foremost, the gathered folds of fabric compliment almost any body type there is. The busy details can either cover or accentuate any body part you want depending on how you bring it to play.
Today, we will be talking about the right ruching in different types of clothes. We have to admit that not all types of ruching can be flattering to everyone; because with ruching you have to know how to pull it off just right.
For ruched clothing on plus-sized women, you have to be particular as to where the ruching is and how much of it there is. Too much of it can honestly be overwhelming to the eyes but too little might not even be noticeable and worse, it might even look like terribly wrinkled clothing when worn.
This Betsy Ruched Dress from Kiyonna is a perfect example of ruched clothing with taste; it’s perfect for plus-sized women. The garment appears to be tight and body hugging but in a sexy, appealing way. The details from the mid to the bottom half of the dress compliments women with a V-body shape as it balances out the whole figure. MORE IMAGES →
When it comes to dresses, there is one that remains sacred for most women. They may wear it only once in their lives, but for them, it is the single most important dress in their lives and it must be beautiful. Of course, we are talking about the wedding dress, and it definitely is the wedding dress as it’s the one we take most time choosing and the most time reminiscing about.
For plus-sized women, however, it’s doubly hard to find that perfect dress that encompasses all that we are. Thankfully, more and more designers have come to the realization that we do exist and they have started creating stunning wedding dresses fit for a queen. We’ve selected a few of our favorites here to show you that a plus size bride does not have to mean a frumpy bride. MORE IMAGES →

The theme of the City Chic collection is yes — “Ka-Pow!” At the onset, you may think that the designers are going the ‘super hero’ route for the collection and you fear for the worst (jumpsuit spandex), but rest easy, City Chic did not lose their minds!
The Ka-Pow! Collection is all about ‘shock value’. In the plus size fashion tops presented in their collection, it is all about the bright colors and powerful impact prints that are definitely going to delight onlookers and even wearers alike! The good thing about these tops is that they are very casual and ready for your daily ensembles.
The ’Ka-Pow!’ that you are going to get from this City Chic collection is a definite great hit for both fashion and flair! The prints are enough to carry on the whole ensemble so always remember to pair them with something solid colored, faded denim or even downplay it with some dark hues so that all of the focus is on this plus size fashion!
The only way that you can get this ‘ka-pow!’ look wrong is that you pair it with another ‘loud’ item. So don’t add frills or other forms of detailing on your body and just let this City Chic top take you to the next level. This way, you will look effortless and definitely ‘city chic’! MORE IMAGES →

Lace has always been one of the most feminine and flattering materials. For many it brings to mind a time gone by with a vintage feel, while others will remember those times back in the 1980s when black lace paired wonderfully with denim and spikes and neon and any other completely off the wall fabric. Plus size women often shy away from eye catching fabrics but lace does not need to be one of those.
If you feel uncomfortable in lace outfits, there are great ways to accessorize. Here’s a fantastic pair of cream canvas and lace pumps that elegantly flow between the two fabrics. MORE IMAGES →

Spring is all about rebirth and new life. It’s the season where icicles are melting and flowers begin to bloom. In the natural world, bears, chipmunks and other animals wake up from their long deep slumber to begin another journey. Likened to our furry (and in other cases, scaly) friends, in the fashion world we too must wake up from our winter nights by shedding our extra skin: coats, scarves, bonnets and our favorite boots.
This season, it’s all about statement pieces and bold outfits. Prints and color blocking are, very much, still in. As for accessories, hats and eye-catchy jewelry give your outfit that boost that you want for the look you’re going for.

The Hoss Intropia Spring/Summer 2012 collection gives us a feel of 2012′s spring/summer trends.
There are 3 things that us women have in common. All of us are incurable romantics; some may call it vain, we love to look and dress beautiful and, we are all “gypsies at heart”. We cant think of any woman who would refuse the opportunity to flaunt her beautiful self and show off a new addition to her wardrobe.
This year it looks like you can do all that and still not have to go all out and spend a lot of money to keep to the trends. 2012 spring fashion trends are a beautiful blend of fashion from the previous years. MORE IMAGES →
StylishDressing.com was initially envisioned as a fashion imagery hub from where women of all shapes and sizes could derive inspiration. However, our team noticed that plus sized women were a hugely under represented group in the fashion industry. StylishDressing.com then repositioned itself as a ‘Curated Plus Size Fashion Inspiration’ blog. We believe that beauty does not come in any particular size or shape and believe that all designers should start to feature more plus size models. No, we are NOT against women of any size-we are only advocating a larger representation for plus size women in the fashion world.
We do not claim to be industry experts – those are the plus size magazines and plus fashion bloggers. We thank each one of them for the excellent job they are doing to bring plus size into mainstream fashion. We also thank all those gorgeous plus size models, hair and make-up artistes, photographers and stylists who were kind enough to grant us publishing rights.
But yes, we are experts at scouring the web and delivering the best images and insights on the latest trends in plus size fashion. StylishDressing.com has tie-ups with leading plus size designers, stylists, fashion photographers, models, bloggers and industry experts. This allows us to excel at what we do – inspiring you!
